More than 1,500 Sensus smart meters will be installed in the Anglian Water region each day in 2025-30, as the company completes its industry leading rollout.
One million Sensus smart meters have already been fitted by Anglian Water since 2020, with the advanced technology helping to find and fix more than 300,000 leaks in that time.
On 3 October 2024, Anglian Water announced a new agreement with its existing smart network partner, Arqiva, for the 2025-2030 asset management period (AMP8). Arqiva, in partnership with Xylem, will continue providing advanced metering infrastructure, including Sensus smart meters, to support the Anglian Water programme, which is set for completion by 2030.
Sensus, a Xylem brand, is a leading manufacturer of smart meters, advanced sensors and analytics platforms globally.
Andrew Welsh, water utilities director at Xylem UK said: “Xylem is proud to continue to provide Sensus smart meters to Anglian Water’s flagship programme.
“The one million Sensus smart meters connected so far are already supporting the key drivers of leakage reduction and per-capita consumption, while opening-up new opportunities for community engagement.
“And not just that – the granularity of hourly reads from Sensus meters, along with the frequency of data communication, means water companies are able to gain deeper insights into when, where and why water is being used. When fully optimised, this data can support proactive working across the board, including in asset management, demand forecasting and customer service.”
Pete Holland, director of customer and wholesale services at Anglian Water, said: “We are pleased to have extended our smart meter partnerships for another five years.
“Anglian Water Services’ industry-leading smart meter programme puts people in touch with just how much water they really use. The technology allows customers to take data down to daily or even hourly level, helping them take control of their household bills and find leaks that are costing them money and wasting water.
“It’s just one of the ways we’re looking after the environment while protecting water for future generations.”
